Vishnu is one of the most important gods in Hinduism and is often regarded as the Supreme Being. He is known for maintaining balance in the universe and preserving it from destruction. His four arms symbolize his power to protect, maintain, destroy and create. He presides over the four Vedas — Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda — which are considered to be sacred Hindu scriptures. Vishnu’s consort is Lakshmi who symbolizes wealth and prosperity. He is worshipped in many forms such as Padmanabha (the lotus), Narayana (the sustainer), Vasudeva (God incarnated as Krishna). He has many avatars like Rama, Krishna, Matsya among others that depict his importance in Indian mythology
